How did we get here?

You may be asking yourself, if we loved New York so much, why would we pack up and leave?

We could say it was chance, or an epiphany, but it really came down to two things: open mindedness + sense of adventure.

In New York, we walked until our feet were sore and danced until the sun came up in order to enjoy every moment we could. We took our first trip together to Cancun, Mexico and although we weren’t “really” in Mexico but rather in a resort, we decided taking an airplane ride together somewhere new wasn’t all that bad.

We didn’t speak about traveling or leaving New York until eight months later.

Eight months has been our theme. Over time, it has proven to be the ideal duration to make things happen: Plan an international trip, decide to move abroad, set a date to take a “wing it” trip across Europe with no reservations or idea where we will go each day.

Both of us saw ourselves long-term in New York. We both had well-paying careers on Wall Street, a close circle of friends, and no shortage of weekend activities to pursue. We had worked hard to remain in the city and bonded over our mutual disinterest in suburban life.

Our personalities push each other to take calculated, yet fulfilling risks.

We knew quickly this was the recipe for a successful relationship.

Our first true international trip was to Iceland in March of 2022. It was Joe’s first time leaving the continent and we booked the entire trip just three weeks before our flight took off. We knew we had something special after being crammed in a TINY car together 24/7 for five days (and still, somehow, liked each other at the end).

We had tasted the thrill of touching down in a new country together and immediately craved more. Unknowingly at the time, the adventures of Caroline and Joe Travel had begun.

Until next time!

Caroline and Joe :)
